I removed my nail polish tonight, that had been on for a couple weeks. I noticed that the nail on my big toe had turned a white-ish color, from the base to the top. My nail has not changed in any other ways, no thickening, no crumbling, no breaking etc and none of my other toe nails have anything wrong with them.

I take good care of my feet, so I don’t think it could be a fungus, but who knows. This has never happened to me before either and I have never had any problems with my nails in the past. My toe does not hurt, although it does feel like there is a slight pressure on the nail. It is very possible I could have injured my toe in some way, and just don’t remember it. So would injury cause this, or is it something else? Should I wait it out and see if it just heals on its own, or get some treatment?

nail polish too strong?

went to podiatrist and was told that i don’t have a nail fungus

soak your nails in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your nails looking healthy again.

I broke my toe nail last spring. It didnt break all the way but that is how my toe nail fungus started. I have read a lot of about it and I really prefer not to take Lamisil.

Have you ever had toe nail fungus and cured it? How did you do it? How long did it take?

I want to hear some real people with remedies they used that have worked. Right now my nail seem to be growing fine from the bottom but the top part is all infected and I dont want it to spead to the new growing nail.

Also, summer is coming up and I need to wear sandals. My nail is so ugly. What should I do? Its my toe nail.
I read about the Listerine. Thank you for veryfying that. I have been googling this for a while but I want to know what has worked for people.

Happened to me once and aside from buying the WAY expensive meds for it the doc recommended that I soak the nail in Original Listerine. I thought he was nuts but it helped!!!

About 9 years ago he ran a column recommending Pau d’Arco tea. You brew an extra strong tea, using 2 or 3 teabags per cup of water. Let cool until just comfortably warm & soak the feet in it for 10 minutes or until water feels cold. Pour into a covered container and refrigerate to reuse. After 3-4 uses, discard and brew a fresh batch. Use every day or 2x daily. Takes a minimum of 3 months but it works and its cheap and it has no side effects.

I absolutely love having painted toe nails for summer, but everytime I paint my nails I end up with fungus, yuck! With treatment it’s all gone except I have a dark line a little below where the nail begins. Is this fungus waiting to happen, and can I ever paint them again?

try getting a pedicure and keeping foot lotion on them and only wear white or light colored shoes. some socks and colored shoes and socks can cause your feet to sweat and then cause the fungus. also buy new nail polish.

One nail is darkened in color under the nail-and it is real painful in the morning, but just tender by the afternoon.Any suggestions?

I work in a Derm’s office and it doesn’t sound like a fungus. Sounds more like you may have damaged the nail (wearing different shoes, dropping something on it etc) The nail needs to grow out which could take months depending on where the ‘bruise’ is. I have never heard anyone say that fungus was painful. If you want to treat it for fungus anyway, there are many creams for this treatment, go to any drug store and find one that is in your price range, use it twice a day and make sure you rub some of the cream under your toenail as far as you can as well as over the top of the nail.

I need a fast solution. Just point me to the source so I can guage it for myself. Apologize for sounding abrupt but my situation is pretty urgent.

To treat athlete’s foot and jock itch, use the over-the-counter Lamisil.
To treat nail fungus, you must get the prescription Lamisil pills. Topical liquids don’t work!

Brittle, hard, and yellowing nails… How do you stop it?

I know someone who claims to have cured it with Vic’s Vapor Rub. I don’t know if that’s possible since it starts deep in the nail bed. There was a write up about it a few years ago in Runners World but it didn’t mention nail fungus in particular. It just said it had good anti fungal properties.

I have had this toe nail fungus for a while. I have tried killing it by putting Vicks Vapor Rub on it for weeks … this has not worked. Short of a prescription … does anyone know of a home remedy that will kill this fungus?
Please be specific in killing this toe fungus? Do I apply Vicks Vapor Rub non-stop for several months (24/7) … do I drink the Distilled Vinegar? Put it on my feet? I have tried the Vicks Vapor Rub for about two months now and it seems to have done nothing. I have also tried putting Colloidal Silver on it … again, nothing. Please be specific in your answers and thank you.

There isn’t one. Lots of products out there, but none will work since it is not a topical issue that causes the nail fungus.

The prescription will only knock it out, but future exposure will mean the fungus can come back. Prescription also has possible liver issues.

So, best to live with it unless it hurts.
