Okay, I have had a toe fungus since the end of 8th grade (I’m currently in 11th now). I ignored it in the past because it never seemed like a big deal to me, but I’m going to prom this year and want to be able to wear cute shoes like I never did in the past, so I want it gone. These past few days I used vicks vapor rub, and as of today, I’m feeling a light pain in my toe and it seems like the fungus is actually spreading more in my toe.
My mother will not let me get perscriptions from a doctor, because when I went to the doctor for a check up, she said that I could get medicine for it, but they would have to check my blood work every 2-4 weeks and the medicine can be expensive, so the doctor said to deal with it later.
So can somebody please tell me some good at-home treatments to cure a toe nail fungus?
Please and thank you! :D

Hi,

Fungus and bacteria will be killed with hydrogen peroxide on contact. You can try applying a little bit to the toes (all of them) and the skin within about 6" of the toes.

Make sure that your shoes are clean, and that you use clean socks if your feet get sweaty, or at least change them frequently.

Not wearing your shoes in the house will help, so when you get home from school, put on clean socks, that are not moist (like the socks you wore all day long) and then wear those at night.

Rather than use full strength hydrogen peroxide, try mixing it with about 50% to 75 % water. This will be easier on your skin.

Listerine will also kill many bacteria on contact, but your mom might ask why you are using a bottle a night! Putting about a ounce into a small container, and then applying with a cotton ball or wash cloth will sort of do the same thing, kill the bacteria (fungus) by keeping it wet with the antiseptic in the mouthwash.

Remember that the fungus cells will spread about 6-12" when you are wearing socks at school, so you need to clean the whole foot. Soak in warm and soapy water to help clear it up.

I was talking with someone that had athletes foot. It is also difficult to cure, and I told him that a clean shower floor is critical to the cure. Using a mixture of about 2 ounces of bleach and some warm water, this will kill any bacteria or fungus in the shower pan.

Good Luck !

Supply the indicated deficiencies, listed above, which apply to you.

• Eat a high-protein diet, including Brewer’s yeast, calcium, silica, and, if necessary, hydrochloric acid.

• Water causes the nails to swell and they shrink when dry, resulting in loose, brittle nails.

• Avoid immersing the hands in detergent water.

• Never cut the cuticles. This damages the nail and invites infections. Do not push them back.

• Brittle nails are common among teenagers, pregnant women, and those with food allergies. The problem is malabsorption or nutritional deficiencies (unsaturated essential fatty acids, amino acids, calcium, iron, or zinc).

• Hangnails are caused by an essential fatty acid deficiency. Put vitamin E oil or aloe vera directly on it, to reduce further breaking and likelihood of infection. They are particularly common among women who have their hands in water a lot or who bite their nails. Keep nails clipped short. Rub vegetable oil into the hands occasionally.

• If you tend to pick at your nails, wear clothes with pockets; and, when you find yourself starting to do it, put your hands in your pockets.

Yes, I’ve been to the Dr. already and he gave me a prescription called Lamisil. I was to take it for three months, but after 1 month I quit because the side effects were horrible.

I got really bad stomach pains, headaches, I lost all of my sense of taste and smell completely.

I then used liquid Fungi Cure and have been for the past 6 weeks and is not helping.

My thumb nails, 2 big toes and 2 other toe nails (those are very painful) have it.
If you know of another med ( canadian) that would help that doesn’t have such nasty side effects and is not so expensive please let me know. I appreciate the help.
He did bloodwork, not sure what he checked for but he said I was defficient in Vitamin B, and am now on monthly injections.

You also need to determine the underlying cause of your problem. A good place to start is with a full blood panel and then let your doctor prescribe a remedy from that data. Usually the malady you are describing is caused by a weakened immune system. This can be caused by stress or poor diet or a combination of both, or by some other deficiency in your bodies nutrition processing capabilities.

Bottom line is: Don’t just treat the symptoms; find the cause.

which will give better results?

My wife got that on her toenail and used the tea tree oil. When she was faithful putting it on every morning after shower, and every night before bed, it cleared up fast. Remember it will take awhile because you have to let the nail grow out to the point where all the fungus has been trimmed off.

I have ugly toe nail fungus since almost 3 years now. I am just 31 years old and I heard that mostly old people get it. I can’t wear sandales because it just looks so ugly and I am so jealous of people with nice clear nails. I already went to the doctor but she just said that there is nothing she can do since it’s heredetery ( my father has it too ). The pharmacist at Walgreens told me that they have tablets (lamasil) which has to be taken at least 6 months. They cost 200 dollars a months ( insurance doesn’t pay since it’s ”just” a cosmetic thing) and on top of it it can even harm the liver. He also said that it doesn’t always help. Well I can’t afford 200 dollars a months and I also don’t want liver damage in exchange for clear nails. I also used a topical treatment but it also didn’t help. It seem to stop the growing fungus a little bit but it never went away. Are there any other victims out there with toe nail fungus? Did anybody find a good treatment ? I would love to wear sandales again !!!! I am thankful for any advice.

I took two courses of lamisil and one course of sporanox without any relief from my toenail fungus. Then I started applying vicks vapo-rub to my toenail every day…right after my shower. I just used a tissue and rubbed a healthy blob on the nail and the surrounding skin. I did not wipe off the extra…just left it there (just put my socks on over top or just slipped into my sandals in summer). My nail is now growing out and the bottom half is healthy normal nail!

Please be aware, it takes a long, long time. Toenails grow slowly. I have been using the vicks for about 8 months now. I figure another 4 months and the nail will be totally grown out. Give it a try…it is working for me.

yellow toe nail?

I heard lots of remedies. Use vicks vapor rub and put it on your toe. First cut back the nail as far a you can then put it on. My boyfriend says that tea tree oil has helped out for him. The vicks vapor rub tip I got from reading Dr. Gott’s column in my newspaper. Hope some of this helps

no i have not, but i would say be careful because ,bleach is very caustic !mabe you could try using tea tree oil and some baby lotion it will kill fungus or grapeseed extract , these are natural solutions and perhaps a better health choice ,check out natural alternatives for more info.

I would prefer something that is made of natural ingredients.

I’ve never had nail fungus, so I can’t tell you it will work for sure. But, I have heard anecdotal stories of grapefruit seed extract being used for nail fungus. I never bothered to question how it was used. It is inexpensive, so it would be worth a try before resorting to something more expensive.

I would definitely try it if I had nail fungus, and this is what I would try: Get the liquid form and dilute it about 10 drops in 3 oz of water (that’s double the strength we usually use for yeast and bacteria). Soak the nail in it about 5 to 10 minutes.

GSE is an antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-yeast treatment. should be in every medicine cabinet for sore throats, ear infections and yeast infections anyway, so you won’t be out anything getting it. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, since it is antifungal – just not my usual use for it. Health food stores carry it, or http://www.iherb.com (which has the best prices on it, and I’m not affiliated).
