Toenail Fungus affects millions of people worldwide and is notoriously difficult to cure. Apart from taking months to completely cure, it is an irritating condition to suffer from.

Fortunately, there are some treatments available. These treatments fall into two categories. These are; commercial and home treatments.

Commercial treatments are freely available from chemists and supermarkets. No prescription is required and these products have been tried and tested by experts before being sold.

These treatments usually come in the form of tablets or creams.

Two of the most popular commercial treatments are Lamisil tablets and ClearZal.

Lamisil is taken orally and has successfully treated 19 million people worldwide and works well in resistant cases of toenail fungus.

Clearzal is a clinically tested topical nail care solution. It is an antimicrobial solution that kills 99% of infections caused by microbes.

The disadvantage of commercial products is that they can be expensive and, in some cases, have been shown to cause rare side effects such as liver problems and allergic skin reactions.

Many people prefer a home treatment of toenail fungus because there is no need to deal with tablets or the side effects of conventional medication while still retaining fast and effective relief.

An example home treatment of toenail fungus is the daily soaking of the affected nail in a solution that will kill the fungus. Common soaking solutions include dilute chlorine bleach, household vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide or Listerine mouthwash.

These solutions contain anti-fungal agents in them that should eliminate nail fungus. This solution should be applied daily.

Another method is to mix vinegar, tea tree oil, colloidal silver and Vicks vapor rub until they merge into a smooth ointment.

After this, make sure you nails are clean and apply this ointment to the top of your affected nail. The best time to do this is after a bath or before you go to sleep at night. Continue to do this daily and you should see an improvement in your condition.

The main ingredient in this ointment, tea tree oil, is an extract of the leaves and stems from the tea tree and has been scientifically proven to contain anti-fungal properties.

These methods have been used for years in many households and have been very effective in dealing with nail fungus.

Using the methods mentioned in this article (commercial or home treatment); you will be on the right track to curing your nail fungus. However, please remember that for the nail fungus to be completely cured – fungus needs to be removed and your nail needs to grow which can take a few months.

Any home treatments for toenail fungus?
I don’t want to see a doctor for this because i hear the treatment really messes with the liver (it doesn’t need any thing else kickin at it). I just wanted to see if there are any home remedies.

Believe it or not, my friend told me that her doctor recommended Vicks chest rub! I don’t know what the menthol does to the fungus, but she swears that it works for her.

Take tea tree oil and menthol oil in a hot foot bath in a bowl. About 10 drops of each to about 3/4 gallon hot/warm water. soak your feet twice a day. for 2 weeks. this will kill the fungis but it will take a while for the damage that has been done to grow out. While doing this mix a sulotion of tea tree and menthol in a spray bottle and spray your shoes ever time you take them off. try going with out shoes as much as you can. Fungi love warm moist places like your shoes.

In my holistic health office, clients usually did a body cleanse to help get fungus out of the body. (If it’s coming out in your toenails you can be sure its all through your body.) I even had a medical doctor refer a client to me for this because he thought she was too young for the drug that might damage her liver.

If you don’t want to do something that intense, tea tree oil is the norm, but I think oregano oil works better. Either way it might take like 3-6 months. You have to wash your feet and put the oil on afterward 2 times a day.

Aww geez hun, i know the pain all too well …….. you need to avoid all yeast and sugar products to kill a yeast infection ….. and that is precisely what toenail or fingernail fungus is …. a yeast infection..The classic telltale signs of a yeast infection include a white tongue (thrush), toenail or fingernail fungus, vaginal yeast infections and athlete’s foot.

Sugar will literally feed the yeast overgrowth allowing it to flourish… ditch the alcohol and sodas and diet sodas too if you drink any …. antiobiotics, especially broad – spectrum antiobiotics will also kill the helpful bacteria which you need for a healthy gut …….. supplement with a good quality probiotic to rebalance gut flora ……… eat more alkaline forming foods such as leafy and green vegies, cold water fishes such as tuna, salmon, sardines and whiting, organic nuts and seeds such as almonds and brazil nuts…….. all these foods are rich in magnesium and will thus encourage the production of hydrochloric acid in your tummy aiding in digestion and effective elimination ……..the leafy greens and cold water fishes are also rich in calcium and protein and the fish are a rich source of vitamin D too ……. eat organic brown rice and quinoa (prounounced keen ~ wah) as they are both a rich source of the B complex of vitamins and will provide you with the carbs you need for sustained energy and the quinoa is also rich in calcium and iron ………. don’t forget about getting enough iron on a daily basis too ie ~ lean red meats ….. Avoid sugars such as honey, molasses, fructose, maltose, lactose (that means all milk and dairy products) and fruit juices …… avoid artificial sweetners and foods containing brewer’s yeast – ie – alcohol such as beer, wine, brandy, whiskey, rum, ciders and root beer…. avoid baker’s yeast ie ~ breads and rolls and pastries …. avoid mushrooms … avoid fruits and vegies with any sign of mold growth on them …. avoid fermented beverages and condiments including mayonnaise, ketchup, pickled vegies and pickles, salad dressings (use lemon and olive oil instead), soy sauce and vinegar …. avoid all types of hard cheeses which are a pretty good source of mold…. avoid processed and smoked meats and fish, including hot dogs, sausages, luncheon meats etc……. these meats are processed with sugar, spices, yeast and other preservatives …. avoid canned bottled or frozen fruit and vegie juices cos they have loads of sugar and are commonly made from overripened or damaged produce; generally the skin of the fruit contains surface mold and rotten spots, which are pulverised into the juice… avoid dried fruits…. avoid coffee & tea as much as you can as caffeine will aggravate yeast overgrowth………………… you don’t need to use medications to kill a yeast overgrowth ….. simply eliminate their food source and they will disappear on their own …… if you normalise the bacterial flora in the gastrointestinal tract you will feel much better and in most cases won’t need drugs ♥

truly, eat loads and loads of green and leafy vegies, squeeze lemon juice over it to spice it up and help torch bacteria and bolster both your immunity and digestive process …….. and cold water fishes and brown rice / quinoa and watch it clear up…….. oh, drink loads and loads of fresh filtered water to … to ensure you are properly hydrated as the healthiest and happiest body will always be the most hydrated one .

    hope this helps u

    peace 2 you

Diet is very important to lower sugar and starches as this will feed the fungus.
