I removed my nail polish tonight, that had been on for a couple weeks. I noticed that the nail on my big toe had turned a white-ish color, from the base to the top. My nail has not changed in any other ways, no thickening, no crumbling, no breaking etc and none of my other toe nails have anything wrong with them.
I take good care of my feet, so I don’t think it could be a fungus, but who knows. This has never happened to me before either and I have never had any problems with my nails in the past. My toe does not hurt, although it does feel like there is a slight pressure on the nail. It is very possible I could have injured my toe in some way, and just don’t remember it. So would injury cause this, or is it something else? Should I wait it out and see if it just heals on its own, or get some treatment?
nail polish too strong?
I absolutely love having painted toe nails for summer, but everytime I paint my nails I end up with fungus, yuck! With treatment it’s all gone except I have a dark line a little below where the nail begins. Is this fungus waiting to happen, and can I ever paint them again?
try getting a pedicure and keeping foot lotion on them and only wear white or light colored shoes. some socks and colored shoes and socks can cause your feet to sweat and then cause the fungus. also buy new nail polish.
Ok big delima here for me. A little over a year ago I had a fungal infection on my big toenail, I took a name brand Rx as directed by my famly MD. After seing no improvement a couple of months after finishing the 3 month treatment I went to a podiatrist, who said that the fungus was dead and now I had to hope the nail would grow back and reattach. Here I am a year after the visit with the podiatrist and notice a slight discoloration creeping down towards my nail bed, back to the podiatrist I go. He says that he is fairly sure the toe nail will not reattach to the toe but that he could take the toenail off. I like to have my toes pedicured and really don’t want to have it removed but if it will help fine, I just want to know if anyone has had this done and if their nail has grown back successfully!! Please tell me all about it!! Thanks!! Wish you all well!!
In some cases, surgical treatment of the toenail is required. Temporary removal of the infected nail can be performed to permit direct application of a topical antifungal. Permanent removal of a chronically infected nail, like yours that has not responded to any other treatment, permits the fungal infection to be cured, and prevents the return of a deformed nail. Almost 95% of all removed toenails grow back quickly. I would suggest this is your only option. Good luck!
I know this is a bit weird, but a few years back my sister used to swim a lot and walk bare footed, during those times her finger nails began to get a bit yellowish, then a bit black and green. My mom told her it was a fungus but as time went by it keeped on getting worst, to the point where her toe nails lifted a bit from her skin. I need to know if there’s anything out there for her my mom bought her lots of asian products but nothing worked. What can i get to help her out.
If it’s this bad, then get a good, solid product like lamisil, not just some home remedy. Treat the shoes as well with a spray. Also, she should avoid closed footwear as much as possible. She should be careful not to infect others as long as it’s so bad, but still letting her feet breathe is good against the fungus.
People think you get it from going barefoot but the swimming and *wearing shoes afterwards* is the most likely cause. You pick up the spores, but just like the name says, it’s called *athlete’s* foot, not barefooter’s fungus or something… like any fungus, it loves a warm, dark, slightly damp place to grow, so if you put your bare foot down in a locker room or poolside where the floor is warm and damp enough and others go barefoot often enough so there are live spores, and afterwards you put on shoes, you’re providing a perfect place for the spores to thrive. Remain barefoot, and on the dry, well-ventilated bare skin in the daylight, any spores you might pick up will just dry up and die. Nor are you likely to get it from a store, mall or sidewalk; unless you’re walking _right_ behind an infected person spores won’t live long enough to spread in those places. (At home it can spread to other family members even on dry floors; since it’s such a small area it’s not unlikely you will follow ‘in your sister’s footsteps’ within minutes if you’re both barefoot in kitchen, living room or hall).
The fungus is yellow-white and growing under my nail of one of my toes. I’m scared that the fungus will spread to my other toe nails.
It’s spreading and growing at the side under my nail. I clipped it back as far as i could and i’m using hydrogen peroxide.
The yellow part is thicker than the rest of the nail and discolored.
I can’t find any toenail fungus treatment. All the meds are for Athelete’s foot which i DO NOT have. Are there any home remedies for this?
I don’t want it to spread and get my nail removed. I told my parents about this and they are NOT willing to take me to a doctor. They said that it’ll get better on it’s own WHICH IT WON’T since i did a bit of research on it.
Are there any cures for toenail fungus?
Help please!
My doctor prescribed an ointment to use, but it really didn’t help. There are fungus products on the market that are otc. I’ve had it for awhile on my second toes (both feet) and, so far, it hasn’t spread past that. I’ve even lost both toenails (due to hiking, not the fungus) and it didn’t help. You could ask a pharmacist what s/he recommends.
What would you recommend to be the best treatment for fungus on finger and toe nails? Loceryl paint or Lamisil tablets. Heard Lamisil have many side effects!
Onychomycosis is fungal infection of the nail plate, nail bed, or both.
Please see the web pages for more details on Onychomycosis and Terbinafine (generic name) Lamisil (brand name).
I am currently on week 5 (of 12) of my Lamisil oral treatment for toe-nail fungus and experienced a bout of breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at a time in cycle when i shouldn’t be) after intercourse with my hubby. Has anyone experienced this before? I have noticed this on the list of possible side effects, but wanted to make sure that no one has found that the bleeding leads to something worse….
I have never had this occur with Lamisil but did have it happen when I had a yeast infection. I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation to see what they say.
I think I have caught a fungi toe infection.
I swim alot and think i may have caught it from the swimming baths
Both of my big toenails are slightly a discoloured brown/yellow colour and white/yellow in the corner and they are slightly painful when walking, etc.
I have been told that the doctors will not be able to provide treatment for this as the only one available can cause kidney and liver infections so i’d rather avoid that.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever expierienced this before, what caused it, how long it lasted and if there are any home remedies or things to treat it, such as tea tree oil etc?
thanks!
i have had a fungal toe infection for years doctors kept giving me different treatments the last one i was supposed to use twice a week for a whole year it is called loceryl there is also another treatment but they did not want to give it to me as it could have caused damage to the liver. I have heard that teatree oil is effective as it is anti fungal
I have had a fungal toe nail problem for as long as i can remember and its getting no better, its on two toes on each foot and it is really disgusting! What are the best treatments in the UK for it without seeing the doctor?
Thanks.
Get some apple cider vinegar with mother in it (looks like goop in it) sit your feet in a pan and pour the vinegar to just cover the feet and let them soak for about 20 minutes.
After that dry the feet and put some vics vapo rub on your feet and toes and then cover with socks. You should see improvement within 2 days and continue until its gone. DO NOT put fungus fingers in the vics vapo rub. Use a spoon to get out what you need.
Do these things right before bed so you can sleep with the vics on your feet over night.
Have had fungus in my big toenail for about one year. Went to dr, prescribed oral meds but insurance didnt cover it and it was way too expensive. I stubbed my toe today and the entire toenail ripped off. With the toenail off and the fungus exposed is there any treatment I can do to get rid of the fungus?
yes
rub Vicks Vaporub on it til it completely heals
it really kills the fungus and is a cheap fix
Really!
